PREVIEW: Tech, WVU to meet in Big 12 Championship's first round

LUBBOCK, Texas – Texas Tech is set to take on West Virginia at 6 p.m. on Wednesday in a Phillips 66 Big 12 Men's Basketball Championship first-round matchup at the T-Mobile Center in Kansas City, Missouri. The Red Raiders will play in the conference tournament with Corey Williams as the interim head coach.
Tech (16-15, 5-13 Big 12) is making its 26th appearance in the Big 12 Championship following finishing as the runner-up in last year's tournament. The Mountaineers (18-13, 7-11 Big 12) enter the postseason on a two-game winning streak with wins over Iowa State and Kansas State to finish the regular season. Tech was on a four-game winning streak before losing its final three games, including dropping a 71-68 regular-season finale to Oklahoma State last Saturday in Lubbock. TTU and WVU split their regular-season matchups with the road teams winning. Tech earned a 78-72 win on February 18 in Morgantown after the Mountaineers had won 76-61 on January 25 in Lubbock.
The two programs are meeting in the Big 12 postseason tournament for the fourth time with WVU holding a 2-1 all-time advantage. The Mountaineers eliminated the Red Raiders from the tournament in 2019 and 2018 after Tech had won in 2013. Tech is 16-25 all-time in the Big 12 Championship, including going 8-11 in first-round matchups. WVU is making its 10th trip to the conference tournament where it is 9-9 all-time. Both programs are looking to win the tournament for the first time.
The Tech-WVU winner will advance to play top-seeded Kansas at 2 p.m. on Thursday in a quarterfinal matchup. Tech and KU met last season in the Championship Final with the Jayhawks winning the title with a 74-65 victory.
Kevin Obanor leads the Red Raiders for the season with 14.4 points and 6.4 rebounds per game, while De'Vion Harmon is at 13.6 points per game and leads the team with 111 assists and 51 steals. Obanor and Harmon were both All-Big 12 Honorable Mention selections. Pop Isaacs earned Big 12 All-Freshman Team honors after averaging 11.3 points per game and leading Tech with 59 3-pointers. He was 3-for-6 on 3-pointers last Saturday against Oklahoma State in a game where Tech matched a season-high with 14 3-pointers. Jaylon Tyson scored a career-high 27 points in the last matchup against WVU and comes into the postseason averaging 10.9 points and 6.1 rebounds per game. In the past five games, Fardaws Aimaq leads Tech with 14.8 points and 10.8 rebounds in those contests. He led the Red Raiders with nine points and eight rebounds in the loss to OSU after recording 18 rebounds and 13 points in the road loss at Kansas last Tuesday. Aimaq has played in 10 games this season, averaging 11.8 points and 8.3 rebounds including producing 14 points and 12 rebounds against WVU in Morgantown.
Obanor averaged 10.7 points and 5.0 rebounds per game during the 2022 Big 12 Championship, including going for 11 points and six rebounds in the championship final against Kansas. A fifth-year senior, Obanor has produced 2,123 points, 1,088 rebounds and 37 double-doubles in his career. Aimaq is now at 1,001 rebounds in his career along with having scored 1,174 points while Harmon has 1,349 points and 297 rebounds in his career. The three players are the veterans on a young team which has four freshmen who have played important roles throughout the season along with Tyson and Batcho who are in their sophomore season. For the season, 40.7 points per game of the team's 73.7 points average has come from underclassmen.
Erik Stevenson leads West Virginia with 15.5 points per game this season, while Tre Mitchell tops the team with 5.3 rebounds per game to go along with scoring 11.5. Stevenson was named the Big 12 Player of the Week and Big 12 Newcomer of the Week on Monday afternoon after also earning All-Big 12 Third Team honors on Sunday. A fifth-year senior, Stevenson ended the regular season with 23 points against Iowa State before going off for 27 with five 3-pointers against Kansas State. He also scored 27 against the Red Raiders with six 3-pointers in the last matchup. WVU has four players averaging in double figures this season with Kedrian Johnson scoring 11.0 and Emmitt Matthews, Jr. adding 10.3. Matthews was a freshman in the 2019 conference tournament and scored 28 points in the 79-74 win over the Red Raiders. He is the only player still playing from either team from that matchup on March 14, 2019. In that game, Matthews was 10-for-14 from the field and also added eight rebounds.
SERIES HISTORY
West Virginia leads the all-time series by a 17-9 margin and is 2-1 in Big 12 Championship games against the Red Raiders… WVU knocked Tech out of the Big 12 Championship in 2018 and 2019… The Red Raiders would bounce back from that 2019 quarterfinal loss by advancing to the championship game of the NCAA Tournament… The teams split this season with the road teams winning the games… Tech swept the series last season, including earning a 60-53 at the WVU Coliseum on February 5, 2022, to improve to 7-3 in Big 12 play at that time.
RED RAIDER STORYLINES
• Corey Williams in his second season as an assistant coach at Tech and will serve as the interim head coach in Kansas City… He was an assistant from 2019-21 at Arkansas following serving as the head coach at Stetson from 2013-19… Williams played college basketball at Oklahoma State from 1989-92 and started his career as a student assistant for the Cowboys (1993-94)… He has also held assistant coach positions at Oral Roberts and Florida State.
• Mark Adams is in his second season leading the Texas Tech program where he is now 43-25 overall, 17-19 in Big 12 games and 29-6 at home… A 1979 Tech graduate, Adams led the Red Raiders to a 27-10 overall record, 12-6 conference mark, to the Big 12 Championship final and the NCAA Sweet 16 in his first season as the head coach… He was named the 2022 Associated Press Big 12 Coach of the Year and was a finalist for the 2022 Naismith National Coach of the Year… His 27 wins last season were the most by a first-year Tech head coach
• Tech lost eight conference games this season by six points or less, including the final three games by a combined eight points
• Tech is coming off a game where it matched a season-high with 14 3-pointers against OSU… Seven Red Raiders made a 3 in the game led by Tyson and Isaacs who had three each… The 14 3s matched the 14 they hit against South Carolina State on December 17 in a non-conference game… Tech has made 10 or more 3-pointers in six games this season

• In non-conference play, Tech made 14 3-pointers against South Carolina State which was the most since they hit a program-best 16 against Kansas in 2019… Tech made 13 3s against Jackson State for a previous season-high… Tech had its worst 3-point shooting performance of the season against Oklahoma by going just 2-for-18 from beyond the arc in the overtime loss
• In non-conference play, Tech forced a season-high 30 turnovers from Jackson State and scored 47 points off those turnovers… Tech had 19 steals in the game led by Obanor who had four while Isaacs, Washington and Williams had three steals each… The program record for steals in a game is 24 against Nicholls in 2002… The 19 matched the second-most ever for a Red Raider team
• In non-conference play, the 50-point win over Jackson State was the 14th time in program history a Tech team has won by 50 or more
• Tech has won six games by 20 or more points this season, including the 50-point win over JSU, topping HSU by 44, winning by 39 over SC State and a 34-point win over Louisville in Maui… The Red Raiders have held five opponents under 60 points, two under 50 and one under 40 with Louisville scoring only 38 points
• Last season, Tech was 12-6 in Big 12 play, including going 9-0 in home games… The Red Raiders advanced to the Big 12 Championship Finals where they lost to Kansas

• De'Vion Harmon was named an All-Big 12 Honorable Mention selection on Sunday after a regular season where he averaged 13.6 points, 3.6 assists and 1.6 steals per game… He was named the Big 12 Player of the Week two weeks ago after his performances in wins against Texas and West Virginia… He is coming off a game against OSU where he led Tech with six assists and also added nine points and three rebounds… A senior, in his first season at Tech with another year of eligibility, he has played in 122 career games, scoring 1,349 points to go along with 297 assists and 159 steals… He established a new career-high with 25 points against No. 6 Texas in a game where he scored 21 in the first half, including a buzzer-beater 3-pointer going into halftime… He added 13 points and three assists in the last matchup against West Virginia… He had scored in double-figures in nine straight games (stopped at OU) after also leading Tech with 20 points in the win over K-State following 20 points at Baylor and 19 points at Oklahoma State – including tying the game at 68 with 18 seconds remaining with a layup… Harmon has scored in double figures in 24 games this season and in 74 during his career… Harmon averaged 10.8 points per game and had 71 assists last season at Oregon last season after averaging 12.9 points per game at Oklahoma as a sophomore… Harmon started 34 of 35 games last year and a season-high 21 points coming against Stanford… He averaged a team-high 14.5 points in Big 12 games along with providing 53 assists and 27 steals in the 18 games.
• Jaylon Tyson established a new career-high with 27 points at West Virginia where he was 11-for-15 from the field and 3-of-4 on 3-pointers… Tyson is averaging 10.9 points per game and is eighth in the Big 12 with 6.1 rebounds per game this season… He had 13 rebounds at Kansas last Tuesday which was the fourth time this season he's had double-figure rebounds and his second most with 14 rebounds at Texas being his career-high… He averaged 11.7 points and 7.1 rebounds in Big 12 games this season… A sophomore from Plano, he had a previous career-high of 20 points at Oklahoma State in a game where he scored 12 of those points in the second half, including a 3-pointer with a minute to play to cut OSU's lead to one… Tyson recorded the third double-double of his career with 19 points and 10 rebounds at Baylor and is tied with Aimaq and Batcho for the team lead this season in double-doubles…Tyson was 8-for-14 from the field and hit three 3-pointers against the Bears to match his previous career-high in scoring which came in the home game against Baylor… Tyson had his first two double-doubles this season by going for a career-high 19 points and 12 rebounds against Baylor at home following 12 points and 14 rebounds at Texas… His 14 rebounds against the Longhorns in Austin were a career-best and the first time he had double-digit rebounds after having nine rebounds in games this season against Georgetown and Kansas… Tyson, who transferred from Texas last season, is coming off a game against OSU where he had nine points after hitting three 3-pointers in the second half and finished with two rebounds… He was just one rebound shy of his first career double-double in games against Georgetown and Kansas before getting it against the Longhorns… Tyson has scored in double figures in 16 games this season and has had five or more rebounds in 21 of 30 games played… A starter in 30 games, Tyson transferred to Tech at midterm last season but did not play in a game for the Red Raiders… Tyson is currently 43-for-108 (39.8 percent) on 3-pointers and has made at least one 3-pointer in 23 of 30 games played… The home game against Texas and the one at LSU are the only ones where he did not take a 3-point attempt… Against Northwestern State, in his first game at Tech, Tyson made his first collegiate start and was 3-for-4 from the field, including going 2-for-3 on 3-pointers to finish with eight points… His 3-pointer on Tech's second possession of the season-opener was the first basket this season for the Red Raiders… He began his career at the University of Texas where he played in eight games with freshman season-high 11 points coming against Houston Christian last season.
• Pop Isaacs was named to the Big 12 All-Freshman Team after a regular season where he averaged 11.3 points per game and led Tech with 59 3-pointers… He has played the past five games after an injury that had him out six games… He is coming off a game at Kansas where he had 11 points with one 3-pointer last Tuesday before having nine points on 3-for-6 shooting from beyond the arc in the regular-season finale against Oklahoma State… He had returned to the lineup at WVU where he scored 15 points with three 3-pointers after he had missed the past six games with injury… A freshman from Las Vegas, Isaacs leads Tech with 59 3-pointers this season… A starter in 23 games as a freshman, he is now 59-for-155 (38.1 percent) on 3s… He now has 17 games with two or more 3s in a game… Isaacs led Tech with 23 points at Texas after going 5-for-9 on 3-pointers before providing 14 points and five assists against Baylor… His five 3s at UT was his third game with five 3-pointers in a game while his three 3s against BU and KSU last week takes him to nine games with three or more… He scored double figures in 8 of 11 conference games he's played in… He missed the home game against OU due to being in concussion protocol but returned to contribute 10 points, three assists and three steals at Iowa State in 32 minutes of play… Isaacs led Tech with 17 points at TCU after matching a career-high with five 3-pointers before going off for 18 points with four 3-pointers against Kansas… He scored a career-high 24 points and five 3-pointers in the win over Nicholls… He has made three or more 3-pointers in 12 of 24 games played.
• Fardaws Aimaq has now played in 10 games this season, averaging 11.8 points and 8.3 rebounds in those games after providing nine points and eight rebounds in the regular-season finale against Oklahoma State… Aimaq now has 1,174 points and 1,001 rebounds in his career – reaching the 1,000 rebound milestone in the last game of the regular season and the 93rd of his career… He had matched a Tech program record with 18 rebounds at Kansas and recorded his 44th career double-double by adding 13 points against the Jayhawks… He had a season-best seven offensive rebounds against KU in his third double-double of the season… He had led Tech in scoring the previous two games with 19 points against OU and TCU… He produced 19 points and 10 rebounds at Oklahoma after going for 14 points and 12 rebounds in the win at West Virginia… He was 10-for-10 at the free-throw line at WVU and had five offensive rebounds in the road victory… He had made his return to the lineup against K-State where he played 23 minutes, finishing with two points, two assists and one rebound… Aimaq had missed the previous five games after playing in three… Aimaq made his Texas Tech debut at Texas on January 14 where he went for 12 points and five rebounds in 28:58 of time on the court before going for 12 points and nine rebounds in his home debut against Baylor on January 17… A 6-foot-11 senior, he came into this season as an All-Big 12 Preseason Honorable Mention selection and was also on the Kareem Abdul-Jabbar Watch List for the top center in college basketball. … Listed as a forward from Vancouver, Aimaq had been sidelined for the first 16 games of the year with a foot injury he suffered before in September… He would go 5-for-12 from the field and was 1-of-3 from beyond the arc in Austin and was 5-for-8 with one 3-pointer against Baylor… His 44 double-doubles are the seventh most nationally among active players… He earned the 2020-21 WAC Player of the Year honors as a sophomore after leading the nation with 15.0 rebounds to go along with 13.9 points per game and was coming off a junior season where he went for 18.9 points and 13.6 rebounds per game… He was named the WAC Defensive Player of the Year the previous two seasons… During his career, he's averaged 12.6 points and 10.8 rebounds through 93 games.
• Daniel Batcho made his return to the lineup in the regular-season finale against OSU where he provided six points and four rebounds in 20:41 of playing time as a reserve… He had missed the past six games against Kansas, TCU, Oklahoma, West Virginia, Texas and K-State with a lower body injury… For the season, he leads Tech with 1.6 blocks per game to go along with scoring 8.0 points and 5.9 rebounds per game this season… A 6-foot-11 sophomore from Paris, France, Batcho was on a streak of 12 straight games with at least one blocked shot after having two more at LSU but has not recorded one in the past four games he played in… Batcho scored eight points and had seven rebounds for the Red Raiders in the win over LSU… He had 17 blocked shots through 11 Big 12 games played after having conference-best five at TCU and then three more against KU… He currently has 35 blocks for the season and 52 in his career… Prior to conference play, he had a 12/10 performance against Jackson State which was his third double-double of the season and the fourth game with 10 or more rebounds this season… Batcho recorded a career-high 13 rebounds and his second career double-double with 15 points against Georgetown before having 14 points and nine rebounds against Nicholls… Batcho, who has led Tech in scoring in three games and in rebounding in eight, had scored in double figures in five straight games for the first time in his career coming into Big 12 action but has not scored in double figures in a Big 12 game… He scored a career-high 21 points against Ohio State where he was 7 of 10 from the field and 6 of 7 at the free-throw line in Maui… His six blocks against Louisiana Tech are tied for the third most in program history with Tariq Owens owning the single-game record with eight in a win over Memphis in 2018 and Will Flemons second with seven against Texas A&M in 1990… A reserve in 33 games last season at Tech, he came into this season with a career-high 11 rebounds in the overtime win over Tennessee last season at Madison Square Garden in the 2021 Jimmy V Classic.

He produced 2,135 points, 705 rebounds and 823 assists during his high school career.

• KJ Allen scored nine points and had five rebounds against TCU in 20 minutes of play for his top Big 12 performance… He was 4-for-5 from the field and also came away with one steal against the Horned Frogs… Allen went off for a career-high 15 points in the win over Jackson State by shooting 7-for-10 from the field before scoring six against Houston Christian… A junior from Los Angeles, Allen had a season-high seven rebounds and scored five points in the win over EWU in 18 minutes off the bench… In his second season at Tech, Allen is currently averaging 2.4 points and 2.0 rebounds per game this season after contributing three points and three rebounds in the win over K-State but not scoring in the past six games… He had a previous season-high five rebounds against Creighton in the first game in Maui… Allen played in 19 games as a reserve last season for the Red Raiders with a season-high six points coming in games against Kansas State and Omaha… Allen was featured on the Netflix documentary Last Chance U while playing at East Los Angeles College where he averaged 18.5 points and 9.3 rebounds per game and was Adams' first signee.

LEGACY
Texas Tech spent the first and second day of October in Stanton, Texas at its annual team retreat working to continue building strong bonds for the season. The Red Raiders were at the Circle 6 Camp for two days with a theme of legacy that was designed to connect the past with the current team. Adams, shown holding up boxing gloves, talked with the current team about past players who helped build the program and also about how each of the current players owes it to themselves and the program to work hard every day to continue building the legacy that many have worked to build. The team opened up to each other through discussion and also had fun with multiple team-building activities.

Tech (16-15, 5-13 Big 12) is making its 26th appearance in the Big 12 Championship following finishing as the runner-up in last year's tournament. The Mountaineers (18-13, 7-11 Big 12) enter the postseason on a two-game winning streak with wins over Iowa State and Kansas State to finish the regular season. Tech was on a four-game winning streak before losing its final three games, including dropping a 71-68 regular-season finale to Oklahoma State last Saturday in Lubbock. TTU and WVU split their regular-season matchups with the road teams winning. Tech earned a 78-72 win on February 18 in Morgantown after the Mountaineers had won 76-61 on January 25 in Lubbock.
The two programs are meeting in the Big 12 postseason tournament for the fourth time with WVU holding a 2-1 all-time advantage. The Mountaineers eliminated the Red Raiders from the tournament in 2019 and 2018 after Tech had won in 2013. Tech is 16-25 all-time in the Big 12 Championship, including going 8-11 in first-round matchups. WVU is making its 10th trip to the conference tournament where it is 9-9 all-time. Both programs are looking to win the tournament for the first time.
The Tech-WVU winner will advance to play top-seeded Kansas at 2 p.m. on Thursday in a quarterfinal matchup. Tech and KU met last season in the Championship Final with the Jayhawks winning the title with a 74-65 victory.
Kevin Obanor leads the Red Raiders for the season with 14.4 points and 6.4 rebounds per game, while De'Vion Harmon is at 13.6 points per game and leads the team with 111 assists and 51 steals. Obanor and Harmon were both All-Big 12 Honorable Mention selections. Pop Isaacs earned Big 12 All-Freshman Team honors after averaging 11.3 points per game and leading Tech with 59 3-pointers. He was 3-for-6 on 3-pointers last Saturday against Oklahoma State in a game where Tech matched a season-high with 14 3-pointers. Jaylon Tyson scored a career-high 27 points in the last matchup against WVU and comes into the postseason averaging 10.9 points and 6.1 rebounds per game. In the past five games, Fardaws Aimaq leads Tech with 14.8 points and 10.8 rebounds in those contests. He led the Red Raiders with nine points and eight rebounds in the loss to OSU after recording 18 rebounds and 13 points in the road loss at Kansas last Tuesday. Aimaq has played in 10 games this season, averaging 11.8 points and 8.3 rebounds including producing 14 points and 12 rebounds against WVU in Morgantown.
Obanor averaged 10.7 points and 5.0 rebounds per game during the 2022 Big 12 Championship, including going for 11 points and six rebounds in the championship final against Kansas. A fifth-year senior, Obanor has produced 2,123 points, 1,088 rebounds and 37 double-doubles in his career. Aimaq is now at 1,001 rebounds in his career along with having scored 1,174 points while Harmon has 1,349 points and 297 rebounds in his career. The three players are the veterans on a young team which has four freshmen who have played important roles throughout the season along with Tyson and Batcho who are in their sophomore season. For the season, 40.7 points per game of the team's 73.7 points average has come from underclassmen.
Erik Stevenson leads West Virginia with 15.5 points per game this season, while Tre Mitchell tops the team with 5.3 rebounds per game to go along with scoring 11.5. Stevenson was named the Big 12 Player of the Week and Big 12 Newcomer of the Week on Monday afternoon after also earning All-Big 12 Third Team honors on Sunday. A fifth-year senior, Stevenson ended the regular season with 23 points against Iowa State before going off for 27 with five 3-pointers against Kansas State. He also scored 27 against the Red Raiders with six 3-pointers in the last matchup. WVU has four players averaging in double figures this season with Kedrian Johnson scoring 11.0 and Emmitt Matthews, Jr. adding 10.3. Matthews was a freshman in the 2019 conference tournament and scored 28 points in the 79-74 win over the Red Raiders. He is the only player still playing from either team from that matchup on March 14, 2019. In that game, Matthews was 10-for-14 from the field and also added eight rebounds.
SERIES HISTORY
West Virginia leads the all-time series by a 17-9 margin and is 2-1 in Big 12 Championship games against the Red Raiders… WVU knocked Tech out of the Big 12 Championship in 2018 and 2019… The Red Raiders would bounce back from that 2019 quarterfinal loss by advancing to the championship game of the NCAA Tournament… The teams split this season with the road teams winning the games… Tech swept the series last season, including earning a 60-53 at the WVU Coliseum on February 5, 2022, to improve to 7-3 in Big 12 play at that time.

• Corey Williams in his second season as an assistant coach at Tech and will serve as the interim head coach in Kansas City… He was an assistant from 2019-21 at Arkansas following serving as the head coach at Stetson from 2013-19… Williams played college basketball at Oklahoma State from 1989-92 and started his career as a student assistant for the Cowboys (1993-94)… He has also held assistant coach positions at Oral Roberts and Florida State.
• Mark Adams is in his second season leading the Texas Tech program where he is now 43-25 overall, 17-19 in Big 12 games and 29-6 at home… A 1979 Tech graduate, Adams led the Red Raiders to a 27-10 overall record, 12-6 conference mark, to the Big 12 Championship final and the NCAA Sweet 16 in his first season as the head coach… He was named the 2022 Associated Press Big 12 Coach of the Year and was a finalist for the 2022 Naismith National Coach of the Year… His 27 wins last season were the most by a first-year Tech head coach

• De'Vion Harmon was named an All-Big 12 Honorable Mention selection on Sunday after a regular season where he averaged 13.6 points, 3.6 assists and 1.6 steals per game… He was named the Big 12 Player of the Week two weeks ago after his performances in wins against Texas and West Virginia… He is coming off a game against OSU where he led Tech with six assists and also added nine points and three rebounds… A senior, in his first season at Tech with another year of eligibility, he has played in 122 career games, scoring 1,349 points to go along with 297 assists and 159 steals… He established a new career-high with 25 points against No. 6 Texas in a game where he scored 21 in the first half, including a buzzer-beater 3-pointer going into halftime… He added 13 points and three assists in the last matchup against West Virginia… He had scored in double-figures in nine straight games (stopped at OU) after also leading Tech with 20 points in the win over K-State following 20 points at Baylor and 19 points at Oklahoma State – including tying the game at 68 with 18 seconds remaining with a layup… Harmon has scored in double figures in 24 games this season and in 74 during his career… Harmon averaged 10.8 points per game and had 71 assists last season at Oregon last season after averaging 12.9 points per game at Oklahoma as a sophomore… Harmon started 34 of 35 games last year and a season-high 21 points coming against Stanford… He averaged a team-high 14.5 points in Big 12 games along with providing 53 assists and 27 steals in the 18 games.
• Jaylon Tyson established a new career-high with 27 points at West Virginia where he was 11-for-15 from the field and 3-of-4 on 3-pointers… Tyson is averaging 10.9 points per game and is eighth in the Big 12 with 6.1 rebounds per game this season… He had 13 rebounds at Kansas last Tuesday which was the fourth time this season he's had double-figure rebounds and his second most with 14 rebounds at Texas being his career-high… He averaged 11.7 points and 7.1 rebounds in Big 12 games this season… A sophomore from Plano, he had a previous career-high of 20 points at Oklahoma State in a game where he scored 12 of those points in the second half, including a 3-pointer with a minute to play to cut OSU's lead to one… Tyson recorded the third double-double of his career with 19 points and 10 rebounds at Baylor and is tied with Aimaq and Batcho for the team lead this season in double-doubles…Tyson was 8-for-14 from the field and hit three 3-pointers against the Bears to match his previous career-high in scoring which came in the home game against Baylor… Tyson had his first two double-doubles this season by going for a career-high 19 points and 12 rebounds against Baylor at home following 12 points and 14 rebounds at Texas… His 14 rebounds against the Longhorns in Austin were a career-best and the first time he had double-digit rebounds after having nine rebounds in games this season against Georgetown and Kansas… Tyson, who transferred from Texas last season, is coming off a game against OSU where he had nine points after hitting three 3-pointers in the second half and finished with two rebounds… He was just one rebound shy of his first career double-double in games against Georgetown and Kansas before getting it against the Longhorns… Tyson has scored in double figures in 16 games this season and has had five or more rebounds in 21 of 30 games played… A starter in 30 games, Tyson transferred to Tech at midterm last season but did not play in a game for the Red Raiders… Tyson is currently 43-for-108 (39.8 percent) on 3-pointers and has made at least one 3-pointer in 23 of 30 games played… The home game against Texas and the one at LSU are the only ones where he did not take a 3-point attempt… Against Northwestern State, in his first game at Tech, Tyson made his first collegiate start and was 3-for-4 from the field, including going 2-for-3 on 3-pointers to finish with eight points… His 3-pointer on Tech's second possession of the season-opener was the first basket this season for the Red Raiders… He began his career at the University of Texas where he played in eight games with freshman season-high 11 points coming against Houston Christian last season.

• Fardaws Aimaq has now played in 10 games this season, averaging 11.8 points and 8.3 rebounds in those games after providing nine points and eight rebounds in the regular-season finale against Oklahoma State… Aimaq now has 1,174 points and 1,001 rebounds in his career – reaching the 1,000 rebound milestone in the last game of the regular season and the 93rd of his career… He had matched a Tech program record with 18 rebounds at Kansas and recorded his 44th career double-double by adding 13 points against the Jayhawks… He had a season-best seven offensive rebounds against KU in his third double-double of the season… He had led Tech in scoring the previous two games with 19 points against OU and TCU… He produced 19 points and 10 rebounds at Oklahoma after going for 14 points and 12 rebounds in the win at West Virginia… He was 10-for-10 at the free-throw line at WVU and had five offensive rebounds in the road victory… He had made his return to the lineup against K-State where he played 23 minutes, finishing with two points, two assists and one rebound… Aimaq had missed the previous five games after playing in three… Aimaq made his Texas Tech debut at Texas on January 14 where he went for 12 points and five rebounds in 28:58 of time on the court before going for 12 points and nine rebounds in his home debut against Baylor on January 17… A 6-foot-11 senior, he came into this season as an All-Big 12 Preseason Honorable Mention selection and was also on the Kareem Abdul-Jabbar Watch List for the top center in college basketball. … Listed as a forward from Vancouver, Aimaq had been sidelined for the first 16 games of the year with a foot injury he suffered before in September… He would go 5-for-12 from the field and was 1-of-3 from beyond the arc in Austin and was 5-for-8 with one 3-pointer against Baylor… His 44 double-doubles are the seventh most nationally among active players… He earned the 2020-21 WAC Player of the Year honors as a sophomore after leading the nation with 15.0 rebounds to go along with 13.9 points per game and was coming off a junior season where he went for 18.9 points and 13.6 rebounds per game… He was named the WAC Defensive Player of the Year the previous two seasons… During his career, he's averaged 12.6 points and 10.8 rebounds through 93 games.
• Daniel Batcho made his return to the lineup in the regular-season finale against OSU where he provided six points and four rebounds in 20:41 of playing time as a reserve… He had missed the past six games against Kansas, TCU, Oklahoma, West Virginia, Texas and K-State with a lower body injury… For the season, he leads Tech with 1.6 blocks per game to go along with scoring 8.0 points and 5.9 rebounds per game this season… A 6-foot-11 sophomore from Paris, France, Batcho was on a streak of 12 straight games with at least one blocked shot after having two more at LSU but has not recorded one in the past four games he played in… Batcho scored eight points and had seven rebounds for the Red Raiders in the win over LSU… He had 17 blocked shots through 11 Big 12 games played after having conference-best five at TCU and then three more against KU… He currently has 35 blocks for the season and 52 in his career… Prior to conference play, he had a 12/10 performance against Jackson State which was his third double-double of the season and the fourth game with 10 or more rebounds this season… Batcho recorded a career-high 13 rebounds and his second career double-double with 15 points against Georgetown before having 14 points and nine rebounds against Nicholls… Batcho, who has led Tech in scoring in three games and in rebounding in eight, had scored in double figures in five straight games for the first time in his career coming into Big 12 action but has not scored in double figures in a Big 12 game… He scored a career-high 21 points against Ohio State where he was 7 of 10 from the field and 6 of 7 at the free-throw line in Maui… His six blocks against Louisiana Tech are tied for the third most in program history with Tariq Owens owning the single-game record with eight in a win over Memphis in 2018 and Will Flemons second with seven against Texas A&M in 1990… A reserve in 33 games last season at Tech, he came into this season with a career-high 11 rebounds in the overtime win over Tennessee last season at Madison Square Garden in the 2021 Jimmy V Classic.
• Lamar Washington recorded a career-high 13 points and five steals in the win over K-State on February 11 and is coming off a game against OSU in the regular-season finale where he had eight points and five assists… He was 2-for-3 on 3-pointers against the Cowboys for his second game of the season with two 3-pointers… He has played in all 31 games this season, averaging 3.4 points, 1.8 rebounds and 1.8 assists per game… Against K-State in his best game of the season, Washington was 4-for-7 from the field and 2-for-4 on 3-pointers… He is now 7-for-29 on 3-pointers for the season… His five assists against OSU and at Baylor matched a career-high that he also had against Nicholls – he now has 57 assists this season… Washington led the Tech bench with eight points against Iowa State after going 3-for-5 from the field and making two free throws… A steal and dunk with six minutes remaining cut the Cyclone lead to six in the 23-point comeback win… Washington made his first career start against Oklahoma in a game where he contributed six points and six rebounds in 36 minutes of play… Washington had established a previous career-high with 12 points and five assists in the non-conference win over Nicholls after going 12-for-17 from the free-throw line… Washington was averaging 7.8 points and 3.0 assists in the five games leading into conference play… He had a previous season-best with three steals against Houston Christian and Jackson State in non-conference play… A freshman from Portland, Oregon, his 12 points against Nicholls was the first time he scored in double figures and came with him going 0-for-1 from the field shooting… Washington was the 2021 Oregon Gatorade Player of the Year while playing at Jefferson High School as a junior before playing at Compass Prep in Arizona last season as a senior... He produced 2,135 points, 705 rebounds and 823 assists during his high school career.
• Elijah Fisher matched his career-high with eight points against TCU where he was 3-for-4 from the field with one 3-pointer and is coming off a game against Oklahoma State where he had seven points in the regular-season finale… He had made the first start and only start of his career against K-State, finishing with three rebounds, two points and a steal in 12:48 of playing time… He returned to a reserve role in the past six games and also had four points and four rebounds in the win at Oklahoma… A freshman from Toronto, he had a career-high nine rebounds at LSU with three coming on the offensive end before contributing three rebounds and three points against Iowa State… At LSU, he would add five points and two steals in 22 minutes of play in the win in Baton Rouge… For the season, he scored a best of eight points for the first time after going 3-for-4 from the field against Jackson State before scoring five points in each of the wins over SC State and HCU… He is now averaging 3.4 points per game with a previous season-best seven points coming against Texas Southern in the second game of the season… Through 27 games played, he is 35-for-74 (47.3 percent) from the field this season… Before his nine rebounds at LSU, his previous career-high in rebounding was three in games against Jackson State, South Carolina State and Oklahoma… A Toronto, Ontario, Canada native, Fisher averaged 28 points and 13 rebounds during his junior season… Fisher was a consensus five-star recruit and ranked No. 15 by ESPN for the 2023 class… He reclassified to play this season and enrolled at Tech a year early.

• KJ Allen scored nine points and had five rebounds against TCU in 20 minutes of play for his top Big 12 performance… He was 4-for-5 from the field and also came away with one steal against the Horned Frogs… Allen went off for a career-high 15 points in the win over Jackson State by shooting 7-for-10 from the field before scoring six against Houston Christian… A junior from Los Angeles, Allen had a season-high seven rebounds and scored five points in the win over EWU in 18 minutes off the bench… In his second season at Tech, Allen is currently averaging 2.4 points and 2.0 rebounds per game this season after contributing three points and three rebounds in the win over K-State but not scoring in the past six games… He had a previous season-high five rebounds against Creighton in the first game in Maui… Allen played in 19 games as a reserve last season for the Red Raiders with a season-high six points coming in games against Kansas State and Omaha… Allen was featured on the Netflix documentary Last Chance U while playing at East Los Angeles College where he averaged 18.5 points and 9.3 rebounds per game and was Adams' first signee.

LEGACY
Texas Tech spent the first and second day of October in Stanton, Texas at its annual team retreat working to continue building strong bonds for the season. The Red Raiders were at the Circle 6 Camp for two days with a theme of legacy that was designed to connect the past with the current team. Adams, shown holding up boxing gloves, talked with the current team about past players who helped build the program and also about how each of the current players owes it to themselves and the program to work hard every day to continue building the legacy that many have worked to build. The team opened up to each other through discussion and also had fun with multiple team-building activities.
